[He continues to pick at the salad until he finds a piece of chicken that doesn't seem too offensive. At least this way he can perhaps avoid being nagged about his eating habits as well as his living arrangements.]

Are you going to track me down so you can inspect my pantry? [Those were nutritionally complete, if not particularly palatable. He doesn't have time to cook fancy meals. lies]

I might unless you plan on actually cooking for yourself. You don't need to eat crap all the time. [She's well aware that he ate the leftovers in the fridge, so why he's fighting it, she doesn't know.]

[He ate them... cold, but he ate them. It's not the food or even the cooking, he'd done plenty of that while Carolina was younger, it was... hard to explain. He just wasn't hungry most of the time and when he was, he just didn't want to be bothered.]

You needn't concern yourself. [He takes another bite of salad. See, he's eating god damn 'real food' so stop nagging him about it.]

How do you plan on dealing with York and the others?

Good for you. [She's stubborn and matches the look he's giving her for a moment before continuing.] I'm going to talk to York tomorrow, after he's had a chance to cool off.

Preferably in a manner that precludes the chance for physical assault.

He won't get that chance again. I'm going to send him a message, not show up on his doorstep unannounced.

[Not that he encourages you to shoot the bastard if he so much as looks at you funny... but he would totally encourage it, if he thought he could get away with it.]

[He's quiet. He shouldn't promise her anything, it isn't a promise he can keep and she shouldn't care. She isn't... why does she have to be so achingly close to what she can't ever be.]

[He's not sure if it's the truth or a lie, all that matters is that she believes him.]

[She doesn't believe him, but she'll let it slide, if only because she can't be there to make sure he is taken care of.]

No. Is it safe to message or call you or are they going to be monitoring that more closely?

Best to assume they're monitoring for now. [He gets up to leave.]
